The Central Election Commission (CEC) must be a professional body to which people are selected in competition process, said Mykola Katerynchuk on the air of channel “NASH”.
Political forces should not form the CEC. The activities of the last Central Election Commission, which during the presidential elections turned into a branch of Petro Poroshenko’s headquarters, proved that the quota principle for appointing CEC members is the way to undemocratic elections. Prior to the first round of the presidential election, the CEC approved two criminal resolutions that completely questioned the democratic nature of the electoral process.
Initially, CEC made it impossible for presidential candidates to get access to voter lists in order to control the presence on the lists of so-called “dead souls”. And then the CEC legalized Poroshenko’s “grid” and thus allowed voter bribery, which is a direct violation of current legislation. Mykola Katerynchuk’s legal team challenged the CEC’s illegal rulings in the courts. Unfortunately, Poroshenko’s judicial system served not the law, but the criminal regime. Most members of the dismissed CEC, according to Mykola Katerynchuk, should be held criminally responsible.
CEC’s independence from political forces and maximum digitization of the electoral process will put an end to violations of the law, fraud during the elections, said Mykola Katerynchuk.
