Without exaggeration, today the European Parliament made a landmark decision not only for Georgia but also for other countries of Eastern Europe that want to be a full members of the European Community – Georgia got the right to a visa-free regime with the EU. We congratulate the citizens of the country on this important event. For many years Georgia has shown its effective reforms in the economy, legal system and its struggle to fight the corruption.
It should be noted that the first step to this goal was election of Miheil Saakashvili as the President of Georgia. His tough and uncompromising policy in fighting all forms of corruption was the key to the successful development of Georgia, which for several years has evolved from a depressed area into an attractive tourist center with a highly effective market economy.
I want to believe that this year the citizens of Ukraine will get a visa free regime with Schengen countries. I believe that Ukraine is a European state despite the inept policies of our officials and diplomats, who are responsible for the Euro integration processes in the country. Ukraine is destined to be a rich European state, not a raw appendage of Russia.
