“In the Nordic countries, with highest level of pensions among the EU, those who do not pay taxes (public sector employees, military personnel, prisoners, etc.) are not eligible to vote. A right to vote is only given to those who pay taxes. Thus they have no populists and oligarchs in power”. “When the topic of minimum pensions is raised, of course, pensioners are not satisfied with this situation and another meager increase of additional 65 hryvnias that will not improve significantly their financial condition. It is necessary in this situation to ask a question for whom pensioners voted in the last elections, and whether they themselves built such system by selling their votes for 200 hryvnias. Therefore, in my opinion, we need to change our electoral system and give the right to vote only to those who pay taxes”, – said the leader of the European Party of Ukraine Mykola Katerynchuk.
“Now pensioners, who make up a significant part of the electorate, decide elections. It is quite clear that they, who had lived for many yers in the Soviet Union, and now still share Soviet values, drag us down. We understand that we are responsible for the situation in our country. So we need to change it not with words, but with deeds”- he added.
