Mykola Katerynchuk: the government is more afraid of protests than the IMF’s refusal to provide the next tranches

“Today, the government, on behalf of President Zelensky, decided to set the gas price at UAH 6.99 by the end of the heating season or by the end of the quarantine to protect the population from “unscrupulous” gas suppliers. However, the Prime Minister noted that the government’s decision to limit maximum gas price does not mean that the government is abandoning the gas market. The prime minister said that “the gas market is the end of the monopoly and profits of oligarchs. This is the end of gas slavery”.

But there can be no hybrid methods – either the gas market or manual regulation. And the government has chosen manual regulation now only because it fears protests of Ukrainians. And he is afraid of them even more than the IMF’s refusal to provide the next tranches.

Zelensky promised an audit of the state when he became president. So it’s time to start. The energy sector needs not just an audit, but a state of emergency. Someone has to figure out what’s going on there. What happens to our own gas? Why does it not meet the needs of the population? There are a lot of questions, but will there be political will to bring order, ”Mykola Katerynchuk said on his Facebook page.
