Regarding the sanctions of the National Security and Defense Council against TV channels “112-Ukraine”, NewsOne and ZIK

On February 2, 2021, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi enacted the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine to apply sanctions for 5 years against People’s Deputy Taras Kozak and 112-Ukraine, NewsOne and ZIK TV channels.

The authorities consider the sanctions imposed by the decision of the National Security and Defense Council to be necessary to ensure the national security of Ukraine. The European Party of Ukraine supports the decision of the National Security and Defense Council to impose sanctions on media controlled by foreigners and financed by businesses involved in terrorists, serving the interests of the pro-Russian party in Ukraine and spreading Russian propaganda on air.

The imposition of sanctions against a citizen of Ukraine or the government’s ban on the media always has a wide resonance in society. Therefore, we hope that the National Security and Defense Council had 100% legal grounds to implement a decision, as a result of which 112-Ukraine, NewsOne, ZIK stopped broadcasting.

The injured party has already stated that it will appeal the decision of the National Security and Defense Council in court, where both parties will be able to present to the court all the arguments concerning the merits of the case.

The European Party of Ukraine strongly condemns Russia’s military aggression in the Donbas, and demands that Russia return to Ukraine the annexed Ukrainian Crimea and the temporarily occupied territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The European Party of Ukraine considers strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities and strengthening national security on all fronts, including information security, a priority of the government.
