STATEMENT of the European Party of Ukraine on the results of the EU summit in Brussels on 15th December, 2016

The 15th December, 2016 became a sentence for the outcome of official Kyiv diplomatic, international and domestic policy. All the efforts and aspirations of the Ukrainian people to join the common European family became worthless. Politicians used the people results of the Revolution of 2013 – 2014 years, and drove a nail into the soul of the European dream of every Ukrainian by their failure to implement reforms and total failure of ongoing international policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the President.

Following the EU summit in Brussels on 15th December 2016, Ukraine will not receive automatically the status of a candidate country for membership in the EU. Ukraine is not entitled to military cooperation and the right to work. We get no prospects to expand financial cooperation with the EU through the instruments of the EU budget structural funds for candidate countries and, therefore, we will have no prospects of a full membership in the EU.

Let`s note that Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU is postponed because the Dutch government could not reach an agreement with other EU countries. But, unfortunately, at the summit in Brussels, the European Union leaders supported the compromise proposed by the Netherlands, designed to unlock the implementation of the ineffective Association Agreement that is hopeless for Ukraine. And this actually happened simultaneously with another postponement of a visa-free regime for Ukraine by April 2017.

The European Party of Ukraine, being in a tough opposition to the current government, repeatedly pointed to the strategic mistakes that it made. Considering the fact that in Europe today there is a trend of domination the euro pessimistic and extreme right views, neither the President of Ukraine, nor the controlled Ministry of Foreign Affairs took no actions to provide Ukraine an advantageous result of the referendum in the Netherlands.

We believe that such actions of the current government of Ukraine proved its futility. That is why this government should immediately initiate negotiations with the EU about returning to the part of the Agreement about the prospects of Ukrainian membership in the EU. Otherwise, we will demand an immediate restart of power through new parliamentary and presidential elections.
