The European Party of Ukraine participated in the 36th ALDE Congress

On the 20th of November, the President of ALDE Sir Graham Watson officially opened the 36th ALDE Party Congress in the InterContinental Ballroomin in Budapest, Hungary. Ukraine was represented at the Congress by a group from the European Party of Ukraine led by Mykola Katerynchuk.

“We are facing supranational problems, which need supranational responses. Thus, we must intensify cooperation between intelligence services, police and courts. We have to unite for the common goal of ensuring the rule of law “, – said Sir Graham Watson during his opening speech.

Sir Graham Watson has also raised the refugee issue. He believes that Europe should be firmly open to them. It has to carry out a meaningful work with them, instead of turning into a monster and following the example of liberal America – as a result, build a truly healthy European continent.

The Leader of the European Party of Ukraine noted the importance of such event considering the situation in the world. “Every day we find ourselves facing new challenges. Terrorists have intensified around the world, and cooperative actions aimed to prevent and eliminate such kind of threats is our primary task”, – said the Ukrainian liberals’ leader.

The European Commissioner for Justice has also made a speech, as well as Vera Yurova, Consumer and Gender Equality Commissioner; Javier Bettel, the Prime Minister of Luxembourg and the current President of the EU Council; Vice Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Andrew Babish and the member of the Hungarian Parliament Zsuzsanna Salina.

In her video, Vera Yurova, the Commissioner, said about the consequences of terrorist attacks in Paris, stressed out the importance of responding to such threats, “We must be ready to act decisively when our values are being threatened”.

ALDE Party – the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe – the European Party, founded in 1993, includes liberal and liberal-democratic parties, registered in Belgium. At the Congress, The European Party of Ukraine was represented by its leader Mykola Katerynchuk; the Deputy of Ukraine Andriy Lopushansky; Serhiy Grachov, the party member; Natalia Sevidova, Yaroslav Dumyn, Vasil Dumyn, and Vasil Heynish.
