Today representatives of the ruling coalition of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine have refused to support the initiative of the European Party of Ukraine about inclusion in the agenda of the work of the Parliament of the Draft Resolution consideration “About Granting of the Application for Membership in the European Union” (Reg. № 6119 of 03/01/2010).
On our belief such position of the Party of Regions, and the Lytvyn Block and the more so the Communist Party have nothing in common with their declarations of euro-integration aspirations, statements of the European standards of democracy and worthy maintenance of the rights and freedoms of citizens. Today’s voting for the Verkhovna Rada decision has certified that the parliamentary majority has ruined the test on “being European”. All European rhetoric of the coalition majority, the Government and the President has appeared only imitation of actions as the sounded intentions should be supported with real affairs. Today there was an opportunity to show gravity of the proclaimed program positions and responsibility for the country.
This voting became disappointment for all adherents of the European idea in Ukraine. And first of all it is an annoying opening for supporters of the Party of Regions which in the program and in statements of its leader Victor Yanukovych supported the European integration of Ukraine.
According to item 5, p.1, art. 85 of the Constitution of Ukraine the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is empowered to define internal and foreign policy bases. Having refused to include in the agenda the Draft Resolution designated above, the Parliament has actually ignored the right to declare the European aspirations of the further development of Ukraine.
Considering it, the European Party of Ukraine testifies that all those voices which have been given today for this decision, testify that in Ukraine, in the Parliament the Euro-opposition has accurately declared itself. It is the ideological and program demand of the Parliamentary Euro-opposition for system renovation of the power as the opposition offers, protects, advance the project of the European future of Ukraine. The European project has trust and support by the people. Ukrainians already feel themselves Europeans, are ready to work on increase of social and economic standards to the European level. But one of the European values is the value of unification. Europe as the incorporated community, could reach wished for Ukrainians levels of freedom, democracy, security, a worthy standard of living.
The European Party of Ukraine declares that the Party of Regions and a coalition do not understand the essence of incorporated Europe and the European values.
