Valeriy Klochok: The incident with Kokhanivskiy undoubtedly hides the attempts to monopolize the volunteer movement in Ukraine

“The situation surrounding the trial of Mykola Kokhanivskiy and election of a preventive measure deserves attention, first of all, because it was volunteer battalions, who have prevented Russian aggression from spreading to the rest of Ukraine in 2014. Unfortunately, for the last three years, the role of volunteer battalions has been significantly distorted. Authorities through the media and social networks form a public opinion that is getting worse each time. And this causes significant harm to the volunteer movement in Ukraine “, – said the deputy head of the European party of Ukraine, the head of the Chief Executive Committee of the European Party of Ukraine Valeriy Klochok.

“What is the purpose? Of course, in order to monopolize forces in one’s hands – in the hands of the authorities. And according to the Constitution, this is quite justified. However, the power uses this at its discretion, not particularly looking at the consequences. Such negative impact we were able to observe today in the Svyatoshinskiy district court of Kyiv. And against the backdrop of a confrontation in the courtroom, the statement of the Prosecutor General sounded rather as a warning to the judges who could make a decision different from Yuriy Lutsenko’s opinion. In a legal European state such statements are unacceptable”, – commented Valeriy Klochok.

“In general, an incident with volunteers is a demonstrative attempt to monopolize the volunteer movement in Ukraine. Who will actually head volunteer battalions in Ukraine? It will be clear very soon”, – summed up the politician.
