Statement of the European Party of Ukraine regarding the terrorist attacks in Belgium

22/03/2016 18:02

The modern world can be compared to those violent times before and after the First and Second world wars. At that time, a movement, which is called a “lost generation” has emerged – young people who were called at the front at the age of 18 (often have not even graduated from school) began to kill early. After the war, these people could not adapt to civilian life, many of them committed suicide and some of them went mad.

The terrorist attacks that took place symbolically in the heart of Europe – in the capital of Belgium, confirm that statement. As a result, 34 people died and 200 received injuries of various severity. The fact that the responsibility for such a horrible crime has taken a particular group of people (a terrorist group “Islamic State”) makes it more tragic.

We express our deep compassion to the families and relatives of the innocent killed people and sympathize for all the people of Belgium and European community who are experiencing these terrible events. The Ukrainians have lived in the war for three years and have been experienced the pain and grief from the loss of our sons and daughters in fratricidal war. Besides, in Ukraine as well, the reports about the acts of terrorism have increased in the news media.

We believe that in an ever-present threat of terrorism and the spread of armed conflicts, a question about the necessity of creation a qualitatively new system of protection of the European community, which Ukraine belongs to, will arise. The postponement of this process will bring even greater sacrifices and destruction. It is time to unite our efforts against the threat of global terrorism.
