On the last Saturday of November Ukraine traditionally commemorates the victims of famine in 1932-33 – one of the worst tragedies in our history.
This was a planned act of genocide against Ukrainian people on the level of political repressions of Stalin’s regime that claimed millions of innocent lives, leaving behind only empty Ukrainian homes, pain and tears of those who managed to survive. This action was planned by the Soviet authorities to break the Ukrainian people and not let them develop into an independent state.
But Ukrainian people have a strong spirit. According to historians these terrible times led to about 5000 acts of rebellion against Soviet executioners. Even in the most difficult times Ukrainians struggled. We continue to fight now against the same enemy only with a different name.
And this day is an another reason why we can not give up. We have to stand for a free and happy Ukraine without occupiers and torturers, and we shall do everything and not let such horrors happen again in Ukraine.
