Mykola Katerynchuk: We have to develop our own format of negotiations to resolve the conflict in Donbas

“We continue to rely on the Minsk talks and Normandy format that led to nothing. The government does nothing to end the conflict in Donbas, so we have to create our own new format of negotiations based on the Budapest Memorandum”, – said the leader of the European Party of Ukraine on one of the TV channels today.

“If the government does not act, people begin to act. That is how we can explain the statements of volunteer battalions on the blockade of the occupied territories in order to encourage the aggressor to release our prisoners and begin the process of the conflict ending. The actions of government show no desire to end the war and to return the occupied Ukrainian territories. Actions of the President and other officials likely indicate a desire to freeze the conflict. For someone it is the war, but for others it is the opportunity to enrich themselves. So for someone this situation is beneficial”, – said Mykola Katerynchuk.

“It is clear that the resolution of this issue is not possible with the present government. Because the position of Ukrainian power is extremely weak. And it may only change by creating our own hybrid format, which must be based on the Budapest Memorandum. If these negotiations fail, it is necessary to work on the restoration of the nuclear status of Ukraine. Ukraine has to become stronger, and only decisive actions may help”, – said the politician.

“I am convinced that society will not tolerate it anymore and next year will require the government to finally decide on the questions of war and peace in Donbas”, – he added.
