as the only candidate from the opposition in the election of Kyiv mayor

The All-Ukrainian Union “Svoboda”

European Party of Ukraine considers its civil duty to make an open statement to the United Opposition “Batkivshchyna”, the Political party “UDAR” and the All-Ukrainian Union “Svoboda”, as its allies in their opposition to the activities of the current government, with a proposal to nominate Mykola Katerynchuk as a single opposition candidate for Kyiv mayor.

The question of the election to the City Council of Kyiv and Kyiv mayor is in limbo and put aside because of the recent political battles. However, the importance of this campaign is difficult to underestimate due to the President election in Ukraine in 2015. Fighting for Kyiv is crucial for the future Head of the State. According to this, the opposition forces have neither moral nor any other right to spin out a decision on the format of participation in elections and should strive to adopt a relevant decision on the date of the election. Ignoring of this issue harms the development of the democratic values in Ukraine and its image on the world arena.

European Party of Ukraine has experience of taking part in the last election campaign in the capital. As a result, it formed its own faction in the Kyiv City Council – “The Bloc of Mykola Katerynchuk”. Throughout the period of tenure we have always critically evaluated the city government, severely criticized it for its illegal actions and decisions. Mykola Katerynchuk himself systematically participated in the plenary sessions of Kyiv City Council, applied with the petitions in support of the kyivites and sought in every way to improve the situation in Kyiv within his powers. So we turn to the above-mentioned political forces with the proposal to put forward Mykola Katerynchuk as the only candidate from the opposition for Kyiv mayor.

We believe that the experience of Mykola Katerynchuk, as a politician of the nationwide level and one of the leaders of the opposition movement in the country, will ensure the welfare of kyivites, improve successful development of the capital as one of the major European cities and better the Ukraine’s image in the world.
