The leader of the European Party of Ukraine, People’s Deputy of Ukraine, and a member of the parliamentary faction “Batkivshchyna” Mykola Katerynchuk considers the decision of the Central Election Commission on refusal to register the initiative group on holding referendum under the public initiative on Ukraine’s accession to the Customs Union, as quite natural and as such that is taken based on the court ruling.
“I am pleased to note that actions of CEC were coordinated and in full conformity with previously taken judicial decision to ban the CEC to send a representative to meetings of citizens to hold referendum on Ukraine’s accession to the Customs Union. Tips of Communists in this respect did not work, although they were actually trying to mislead the citizens of Ukraine and staged the play at the stadium “Spartak”. I emphasize that I, as a citizen and as a leader of the European Party of Ukraine, will do my best to prevent this mass, which communists tried to call a national referendum. Ukraine will be a full member of the European Union,” – said Mykola Katerynchuk , commenting the CEC decision.
“Today we have done all the necessary legal and regulatory actions to prohibit conduct of this referendum. Our position is constitutional and as such, that corresponds the interests of the majority of population of Ukraine. On the eve of the fateful Vilnius Summit, where the Association Agreement should be signed, such actions of communists could be regarded as a provocation. We will not torpedo the European integration vector of Ukraine,” – said the MP.
As reported, on September 2, Kyiv District Administrative Court at the claim of the European Party of Ukraine banned the Communist Party to organize and hold public meetings on the referendum for Ukraine’s accession to the Customs Union. Also, by the court’s ruling, CEC is prohibited to send its representative to meetings of citizens of Ukraine concerning the referendum.
However, on September 3, leader of the Communist Party of Ukraine Petro Symonenko said that public meetings to prepare the referendum to be held on September 8. The Communist Party filed another notice with the CEC and noted that the meeting will take place on September 8, but the topic of the meeting is different – Joining the EurAsEC.
However, under the decision of Kyiv District Administrative Court of September 6, based on the claims of the European Party of Ukraine to the CEC, the CEC is not allowed to send its representative to meetings of citizens to hold the referendum.
