After the events of the last few days and the escalation of violence, the ALDE leader Guy Verhofstadt headed a Party delegation to Kyiv to meet with the opposition leaders and representatives of EuroMaydan, civil society leaders and protesters. He is accompanied by the President of Liberal International Hans van Baalen and the Secretary General of the European Democratic Party and Vice President of ALDE Group Marielle de Sarnez.
In particular, Guy Verhofstadt said: “It is important to show our solidarity with those, who are protesting to defend their democratic rights. That’s why I decided to visit Kyiv. They are not terrorists, they are not violent revolutionaries – they are just ordinary citizens, who want to be heard and they do not deserve such atrocities in return”.
The delegation will meet with the leaders of the opposition Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Vitali Klitschko and Oleh Tyahnybok.
It is also scheduled to meet with the leader of the European Party of Ukraine Mykola Katerynchuk.
