“If last autumn we had doubts about the prospects of Ukraine’s membership in the European Union, now we can only discuss the terms of European integration of Ukraine. In other words, it is only a matter of time”, – commented the leader of the European Party of Ukraine, People`s Deputy of Ukraine Mykola Katerynchuk on the resolution of the European Parliament “On Russian pressure on Eastern Partnership countries and in particular destabilization of eastern Ukraine” that was adopted on April 17 during a session in Strasbourg.
“The resolution claims that Ukraine and other countries of the Eastern Partnership have a European perspective and a right to apply for membership in the European Union in the case of compliance with the principles of democracy. Therefore, before the elections to the European Parliament, we have to submit an application for EU membership and continue to work on strengthening the fundamental principles of European democracy “, – said Mykola Katerynchuk.
” (European Parliament) emphasizes that the Association Agreement with Ukraine and other Eastern Partnership countries is not an end-point in relations with the EU, and notes that under Article 49 of the EC Treaty, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, as well as any other European country with a European perspective, can apply for membership in the EU, in the case of compliance with the principles of democracy, respect for fundamental freedoms and human rights, minority rights and guarantee of the rule of law”, – is said in the resolution.
