The last parliamentary day of permanent political confrontation proved the inability of the current convocation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to make essential decisions for Ukraine: the question of Yulia Tymoshenko is hanging in the air and the European integration laws were deferred indefinitely. There is no other explanation for the results of Friday’s voting in the parliament. The signing of the Association Agreement at the Vilnius summit has been jeopardized, primarily because of the position of the ruling majority.
Therefore I apply to President of Ukraine to ask him to use all his influence on the Party of Regions to unlock the process of European integration and fulfilling the fundamental requirements of the European Union, which are supported by most Ukrainians. Your statements about no alternative European ways for Ukraine are a major basis for a consensus with members of your party before the fateful decision for the whole Ukraine.
Especially I appeal to my colleagues, the MPs from different political parties, regardless of their political orientation: the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the second convocation became known through the adoption of the Constitution of Ukraine. Our Parliament of the seventh convocation also has a chance to make history for the first time in many years, accelerating European integration of Ukraine.
In order to secure European future of our country, recognizing the exceptional drama of today, I apply to all political forces represented in the parliament to abandon the confrontation.
I urge you, dear colleagues, to understand this situation and give up all political debates and mutual insults. Interests of the state are above the narrow party benefits or small defeats. We need to organize an extraordinary session before the report of the Cox- Kwasniewski monitoring committee to solve the key problem on the way to our European integration.
With the belief in the European future of Ukraine,
Mykola Katerynchuk
