The District Administrative Court of Kyiv has just decided to forbid the European Party of Ukraine to conduct on August 24 this year, rallies or any other peaceful gatherings in the capital.
In particular, the District Administrative Court of Kyiv satisfied in full the claim of the Kyiv city state administration against the European Party of Ukraine. “The Court put restriction on the right to peaceful assembly, and prohibited picketing on August 24, 2011 in the central part of Kyiv, namely: the European area – street Hrushevskogo – Square of Fame, Besarabska Square, Sophia Square, Mykhailivska Square, Bankova Street, Khreshchatyk, Independence Square throughout the day and park Shevchenko till 11:00 a.m.”- said in the resolution.
On the eve the European Party of Ukraine appealed to the KSCA with the application, which reported: “Subject to Article 39 of the Constitution of Ukraine, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine № 4-rp/2001 of 19 April 2001, the political party “The European Party of Ukraine” reports of holding a peaceful gathering on August 24, 2011 at the St. Sophia Square in Kyiv. of A peaceful assembly begins at 11 a.m., duration – 6 hours. Estimated number of participants is 3,000 people. It is planned to set the stage. We ask, within competence, to take measures stipulated by the legislation of Ukraine needed to allow the citizens of this peaceful gathering, maintaining public order, rights and freedoms of others. ”
Commenting on this decision the Leader of the European Party of Ukraine, Deputy of Ukraine Mykola Katerynchuk said: “I strongly and negatively treats this decision because the current government through the judicial branch prohibits peaceful assemblies and makes Ukraine a police state. If this situation with making such decisions continues – soon it will be possible to say on the final establishment of dictatorship in our country. In general, it is a “worthy” gift to the anniversary of the Independence for all Ukrainians”
