This law aims to regulate social relations associated with the status of Ukrainian language as the state one in Ukraine and its official use. The law aims to: strengthen the consolidating role of the Ukrainian language as the official language of Ukraine in the political, social, economic and cultural areas, which helps to preserve the unity and the integrity of Ukraine and ensure the Ukrainian language as a means of international communication between Ukrainian people; strengthen the legal basis of the Ukrainian language as the state language of Ukraine in government, local authorities and other organizations; establish the basic requirements in relation to the use, development, improvement and dissemination of the Ukrainian language as the official language of Ukraine; promote the respect for the Ukrainian language and preserve its identity, richness and purity as a general cultural heritage of the people of Ukraine and the world culture.
The law aims to determine the responsibilities of the government, duties of officials in Ukraine in relation to the Ukrainian language as the state one, as well as relevant rights of its citizens. The law stipulates the obligation of any officials to use the Ukrainian language as a state language.
“Adoption of the draft law will help consolidate the efforts of government to protect Ukrainian language as a state one, to do these measures systemic and organized, and to oblige the authorities to take into account the priorities of the state language policy”, – said the author of the draft law.
