Mykola Katerynchuk asks the MFA of Ukraine and the PGO of Ukraine to help the victims and families of dead Ukrainian fishermen

The leader of the European Party of Ukraine, People’s Deputy of Ukraine, the member of the parliamentary faction “Batkivshchina” Mykola Katerynchuk sent the parliamentary inquiry to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Prosecutor General`s Office of Ukraine concerning the tragic events that occurred on July 17, 2013 in the Azov Sea that resulted in the death of four Ukrainians and put the freedom of another one in danger.
On this day in the Azov Sea near the Russian village Vorontsovka Ukrainian small- sized fishing boat collided with the boat of the Border Guard Service of Russia.
 Ukrainian fishing boat capsized, resulting in the death of citizens of Ukraine, the residents of Donetsk Region 25 -year-old Sergiy Erohin, 23 -year-old Yevhen Dudnik, 37 -year-old Dmitro Daragan and 45 -year-old Yuriy Boyko. One of the victims of this tragic event, Oleksander Fedorovich managed to survive.
All the victims were breadwinners of families and have minor children who became orphans because of the tragedy.
Oleksander Fedorovich, who survived, was taken to hospital in the Russian Federation where he was provided medical assistance. However, the Russian side opened a criminal case against him for illegal fishing and extraction of biological resources and violation of the rules of navigation.
Oleksander Fedorovich, who had a serious surgery not long ago, is still in the Russian Federation as a suspect in the criminal case. He was also refused in charges withdrawal and returning home.
“In view of the above, I wish to express a serious concern about the situation that happened to the Ukrainians on July 17, 2013 in the Azov Sea. In my opinion the Government of Ukraine is obliged to do everything possible to prevent the violation of the rights of citizens of Ukraine in the future due to the special regime of the territory in the Azov Sea, to provide a comprehensive and objective investigation and clarification of the facts and circumstances of the incident, to prevent violation of the rights of a citizen of Ukraine Oleksander Fedorovich and his unreasonable charges of a crime on the territory of the Russian Federation as well as to assist victims and families of tragically dead fishermen”, – is stated in the request.
