Last week the delegation of the European Party of Ukraine headed by its leader Mykola Katerynchuk had official visits to the mayors of Sofia (Bulgaria) and Budapest (Hungary).

A wide range of questions governing urban infrastructure were discussed with the mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandykova, who is supported by the majority of citizens and was elected as mayor for the second time.

“In my opinion the experience of Sofia in attracting grant funds from the European Union under the “Environment” programme might be interesting for Kyiv. This programme allowed the city to build a community treatment facilities for new technologies, to solve the problem of landfills; it helped to update the public transport and to build new metro stations”, – noted after meeting Mykola Katerynchuk.

In Budapest Mykola Katerynchuk had a business meeting with Deputy Mayor Tamash Sentash, who spoke about the principles of budgeting, presented the programme for public transport development, the system of privileges and their usage.

Besides, the representatives of the Municipality of Budapest shared with Mykola Katerynchuk the features of reconstruction and revitalization, projects to increase tourist attraction, attracting investments, development of small and medium businesses. Also Mr. Sentash spoke about the construction of bicycle paths initiated by Mayor István Tarlosh.

“You get not only just impression from these meetings. They are valuable because they reveal the solution of the problems that are successfully overcome in capitals of the European Union. And when we are told that there is no money for a project in the city budget, we can find the answers to all the questions. They are on the surface. We should just learn from the experience of the European countries or even more – to attract European experts, who would help Kyiv to solve the above problems” , – said Mykola Katerynchuk.
