Mykola Katerynchuk: having signed the law on languages, the President turned up the thumb on the crime of the governing coalition.

European Party of Ukraine condemned the President’s signing of the language law. “I think this is a gross mistake of the President, at first, as a guarantor of the Constitution, and then – as a politician” – said People’s Deputy of Ukraine Mykola Katerynchuk.

“No doubt that before the parliamentary elections this law plays in favor of the Party of Regions. The President had to stay away from the political games and be honest in front of all Ukraine. Unfortunately, this did not happen”, – said the MP.

“I have already said that having adopted the law on languages, all norms of the Law “On the Regulation of the Parliament” are being violated. The governing coalition committed a crime. And now the President has worsened the offense with his signature. From these positions he has grossly violated the Constitution, which he guarantees”, – said Mykola Katerynchuk.

“Ukraine has Article 10 of the Constitution, which defines the Ukrainian language as a sole state language. Our appeal to the President of Ukraine to veto the “language” draft law was not heard. So tomorrow we will prepare the appropriate application to the Constitutional Court of Ukraine to declare the law unconstitutional. The truth is on our side and we will prove it. We have all reasons for this”- added the MP.

On July 19, 2012 Mykola Katerynchuk submitted to the Parliament the Draft Law of Ukraine “On State Language of Ukraine” (reg.no.11014). Adoption of this draft law will oblige all civil servants to speak Ukrainian and will help to consolidate the efforts of the government to protect Ukrainian as a state language. It will also help to make these measures systemic and organized, to oblige the authorities to take into account priorities of the national language policy in their work.
