On 30th June, 2017, the meeting of the Working Group of the EU-Ukraine Regions Committee on Decentralization is held in the city of Khyriv (Lviv Oblast). It was joined by the leader of the European Party of Ukraine Mykola Katerinchuk. The People’s Deputy of Ukraine, the member of the European Party of Ukraine, Andriy Lopushansky became a co-organizer of the event.
The event was moderated by the president of the Committee of the Regions of the EU Markku Markkula. Among the invited speakers there are Franz Schausberger, the CIVEX member, the Special Adviser to the EU Commissioner J. Hanna on the regions and cities of enlargement and countries covered by the neighborhood policy, the Secretary-General of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe Andreas Kiefer, and Arnoldas Abromavichus, the representative of the Committee of the Regions.
The reform of decentralization in Ukraine (general development, achievements, problems) was chosen as a topic for discussion. The results of the decentralization reform in Ukraine was presented, prospects for further cooperation at the local level of Ukraine and the EU were outlined. The participants of the meeting emphasized on the need for the exchange of experience between Ukraine and the European Union, especially in the areas of organization of primary health care and cultural space at the local level.
According to the results of the meeting, it is planned to exchange views among the participants on the plans for 2017-2018, as well as discuss the participation in the European Week of Cities and Regions.
