“An important role in increasing accountability of public authorities plays the opposition and civil society – they need to be more involved in the implementation of these priorities. This issue is already reflected in the Association Agenda EU – Ukraine “, – said the Leader of the European Party of Ukraine, Deputy of Ukraine Mykola Katerynchuk in his speech at the Summer Forum of the Parliamentary Club EU-Ukraine: “Ukraine and the EU: building the future together”, which is running these days in the Crimea.
“The reform of the prosecution, judicial reform, reform of the electoral law can not be made without opposition. To ensure results, these matters should be under close attention at the political level. The opposition must be an active participant in the negotiations between Ukraine and the EU on the Association Agreement “- says MP.
Mykola Katerynchuk said that “this is only way to get power to fulfill its obligations.” “Parallel pressure from civil society, opposition and the European partners will force the authorities to develop specific programs of adaptation, and structural changes for each sector of economy of Ukraine and the reforms in each ministry and department” – he said.
“In particular, when preparing the draft State budget for 2012 it is needed to predict costs to support the adaptation of Ukraine legislation to the European one. And the opposition and civil society have the strength and desire to put pressure on the authorities in this direction. The only things we lack are help and support from the Europeans. We are interested in the widest possible involvement of international technical and financial assistance for the implementation of the Free Trade Agreement, including the implementation of international and European standards and the EU technical regulations in terms of Ukraine. We need European knowledge and experience “, – emphasized Mykola Katerynchuk.
