Mykola Katerynchuk: Our European future is in our hands

21/03/2014 15:57
“Today, on March 21, Ukraine signed the political Association with the European Union, which has already promised to open its markets to Ukraine. I believe that this event will be a turning point in the current difficult situation, when our country actually appeared alone in confrontation with the Russian aggressor. But our European future is only in our hands”, – said the leader of the European Party of Ukraine, People’s Deputy of Ukraine Mykola Katerynchuk.

“Today we can hear critical words, concerning the incomplete signature of the Association. Some people ask, why only the political part of the Association was signed, instead of previously ratified version. The answer is clear – we need to keep all possible diplomatic solutions to resolve the Ukrainian crisis. Otherwise we risk to find ourselves on the threshold of the last world war”, – said Mykola Katerynchuk. – “The economic part of the Association will also be signed. But this will be possible only after taking into account the interests of the south-eastern industrial region of Ukraine in order to save every single workplace”.
“Our Party from the very beginning of its foundation claimed its strategic goal – a full membership of Ukraine in the European Union. If before Maydan the Europeans did not want even to talk about it, now we hear a clear message from the European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fule that the EU is ready to give Ukraine a membership perspective”, – said the leader of the European Party of Ukraine.
Mykola Katerynchuk believes that it is the first victory in the establishment of Ukraine as an independent European state. “This is a victory, but not final. The main struggle waits us. We are ready to resist the Russian aggression and defend our European future. No one will do it for us. And signing of the political Association confirms this statement. We, Ukrainians, have to endeavor to conduct the radical reforms and change our country, so that our next steps for membership in the EU become confident and decisive”, – summed up the politician. – “And the world will certainly support this, because the truth is on our side”.
