“By such actions Russia simply puts pressure on Ukraine. The aim is simple – not to give our country an opportunity to make a step forward towards the EU membership, and to deprive Ukraine of independence in the foreign policy via the energy dependence. In my opinion, particular irritation of the Russian side was caused by the signing of the agreement on the extraction of the shale gas with a famous foreign company. Another issue is the quality of this contract, which has to become a subject of the public discussion. According to this, Russia, represented by Gazprom, exposes us the debt for gas, does not comment on it and, finally, warns that if we do not reconsider our decision, the history of gas cuts may happen again. Then we will be again accused of the unauthorized extraction of gas and the disruption of gas supplies to Europe”, – said the MP.
“Another reason for worsening of relations between Ukraine and Russia in gas issue is a recent personnel policy of the current Ukrainian authorities, resulting in the loss of Yuriy Boiko, as the chief lobbyist of the Gazprom`s interests in Ukraine. That is why we have such a reaction of the Russian side”, – said Mykola Katerynchuk.
“Last year during the coffee break in Davos I, as a representative of the European Party of Ukraine, offered Yuriy Boyko some experts, who could challenge the price for Russian gas in the International Court of Justice for free. Now I still confirm my words and I am ready to provide the relevant professionals to void any claims of Russia in gas issues. We only need appropriate powers for it”, – said the parliamentarian.
