“If the Party of Regions prevents the signing of the Association Agreement, I think, no one will believe that their main goal is European integration. If the issue concerning YuliaTymoshenko is not resolved, the Association Agreement will not be signed. This means that the requirements are not necessary to be done now, but we will insist on the implementation of European standards to the Ukrainian legislation”, – said the leader of the European Party of Ukraine, People`s Deputy of Ukraine and the member of the parliamentary faction “Batkivshchina” Mykola Katerynchuk on the air of the radio “Golos Stolicy”, commenting on the opposition`s unwillingness to vote for to the bill on amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine in the section “Justice”.
“This is absurd (Party of Regions` charges with the unwillingness to vote for the bill – Press Service) and attempts to shift responsibility to the opposition. The question is not even in the legislation that should be reformed, but the question is in the resolving of the issue concerning Yulia Tymoshenko. As for constitutional amendments to strengthen the independence of judges, 377 deputies voted in first consideration, and in general. I voted and Arseniy Yatsenyuk voted, and the whole “Batkivshchina” voted. But I do not understand the content, especially why the president needs the elected for life General Attorney and how this can increase the independence of judges. I do not understand why the retirement age for judges has grown to 70, why the High Council of Justice is the primary tool that decides the fate of judges. Where is the public? “- pointed Mykola Katerynchuk.
He noted that, in fact, such changes were required to be adopted. “The EU has formulated: to adopt the legislation that strengthens the independence of judges. And this is an improvisation of the Party of Regions, together with the President. Firstly, there are things we simply can not accept, because after the lifelong General Attorney, we will elect the President for life. Secondly, I still believe that if the issue concerning Yulia Tymoshenko is resolved, we will have enough time to take all necessary legislation, but we must understand that we will not neglect the unwillingness to pay Chernobyl victims and children of war the legislation benefits and bonuses, and state that it is the law of European integration”- said the People`s Deputy.
