Statement of Mykola Katerynchuk on the occasion of the Commemoration Day of the battle participants in other countries

Every year on February 15, according to the decree of the President of Ukraine (February 11, 2004), the Day of honoring the combatants, who took part in battle actions in other countries was instituted in Ukraine, which is also the day of the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan.

Ukrainian soldiers, as a part of Soviet contingent, performed complex tasks in more than two dozen countries in the world. But with significant sadness and sorrow we remember today all those who died during their military duty in Afghanistan. That terrible war, which reasonability is still being questioned, took thousands of innocent lives of young boys. We remember and we will always remember about each fallen compatriot.

Historians have long come to the conclusion that no country won in this unjust war in Afghanistan. Hundreds of thousands of victims have not responded to the question about the reasonability of warfare in Afghanistan. We must remember this bitter experience and always make informed decisions about the intervention in the politics of other countries.

The memory about all killed soldiers will live in our hearts forever.
