STATEMENT
European Party of Ukraine
concerning the case of physical violence over participants of the demonstration in support of Yulia Tymoshenko

Today at 6:00 am People’s Deputies of Ukraine, Oleksandra Kuzhel, Lyudmyla Denisova and Tetyana Slyuz, protesters against detention conditions of Yulia Tymoshenko in the Central Hospital no.5 of the “UZ” in Kharkiv, were forcibly thrown out of the premises by the unknown men in camouflage suits. In general, there were up to 6 persons to each protester. They only told the MPs that they had some court decisions, but did not show or read it. They did not even show their IDs and used brute physical force. Women did not even have time to collect their belongings and were barefoot.

European Party of Ukraine strongly condemns the abovementioned incident, and calls upon law enforcement agencies to immediately investigate it. Protesters, the citizens of Ukraine and the current MPs, by their actions in the Central Hospital no.5 of the “UZ” in Kharkiv, did not violate any applicable laws and acted in the manner determined by the Constitution and laws of Ukraine.

European Party of Ukraine believes that unknown people in camouflage grossly violated articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, in particular Articles 112, 344, 346 and 351. We regard such actions not only as a simple obstruction of the people’s deputy activity but also as encroachment on their lives and health through the use of physical force in a rough form.

Given the above, European Party of Ukraine sent relevant letters about the incident to all foreign embassies in Ukraine and the Parliamentary Assembly of the European Council.
