The European Party of Ukraine expresses its concern and urges the authorities to take immediate measures to remedy the critical situation concerning the scheduled referendum in the Netherlands on the 6th of April on the Association with Ukraine. A month before the referendum, the number of those, who would vote against, has increased.
So, considering the percentage of those voters who are still undecided about their vote, which is 23%, 33% of citizens of the Netherlands are ready to support Ukrainian, and 44% would vote against it. These are the results of the “I & O Research Center”. In this case, if there would be no option for “undecided”, 57% of respondents choose an option against and 43% – for.
With reference to this data, the European Party of Ukraine believes that the authorities are obliged to hold an explanatory work with those who are undecided, so that the Association Agreement will become a reality. The decision on granting a visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens will largely depend on results of the referendum.
In order to make it works, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine should immediately adopt amendments to the State Budget to anticipate appropriate expenditures. Such decision has not been even suggested by any of MP’s at the night of budget planning for 2016.
In case of the referendum failure, Ukraine receives a sentence that will put an end to all the European integration prospects. The responsibility for this will fall on the government, which will hardly to remain in their seats after such results.
