Statement of the European Party of Ukraine regarding the unprofessional actions of police that caused death of the innocent boy

On the 7thof February, during the night car pursuit, metropolitan police shot Mykhailo Medvedev, a 17-year-old boy from Boyarka (Kiev-Sviatoshyn district). Basing on reports, video and audio recordings published in media, we can state with all responsibility about of police unprofessionalism that resulted in the death of the young innocent boy.

Social media’s reaction to this incident has become fulminant. Many citizens strongly condemn police, who, as it turned out later, were not entitled to use firearms for the detention of the car. Police was shooting through a passenger’s windshield, and not on the tires. As the result, a tragic death happened, and it revealed all the essence of the new police.

The European Party of Ukraine strongly condemns such unprofessionalism of police. As it turned out, behind the beautiful screen of police reform lies the trivial change of uniforms. Moreover, unprofessionalism and distorted lustration in the law enforcement agencies led to an increase of victims on the roads, lootings and robberies. Whereas in the East Ukrainians are dying from enemy bullets, in Kiev, one may die from the hands of a new police officer.

Our political force stands for the requirement to conduct a public investigation of Mykhailo Medvedev’s death and demands a daily report from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine regarding the investigation development. Otherwise, we will initiate public protests with the same requirements and the demands to bring those responsible to justice for concealing the real reasons of the young’s man death.
