The 8th “Afghan” hundred of Maidan Self- Defense presented certificates of appreciation to the candidate for mayor of Kyiv, the leader of the European Party of Ukraine Mykola Katerynchuk and to the candidate for Kyiv City Council Deputy from the European Party of Ukraine, the lawyer Victor Vasylyuk.

“At times of active actions at Maidan Viktor Vasylyuk and I protected the interests of members of the “Afghan” hundred and prevented them from possible seven years in jail”, – said Mykola Katerynchuk. – “The Afghans caught Roman Chaban, the resident of Kalush( located in Ivano -Frankivsk region), who tried to steal money from donations boxes for the needs of protesters. These boxes have been installed at Maidan. The thief, according to his requests, was sent to Kalush. He was even given money to purchase a ticket. Instead, a few days later he appeared at Maidan again and tried to steal money from the boxes, but was repeatedly caught by activists”.
“Considering his retrying to commit a crime, guards of Maidan decided to bring the thief to the police office. However, during his attempt of escape outside Maidan the police officers suddenly appeared and arrested the activists, not the thief. They were accused of extortion and the criminal proceedings were opened”, – said Victor Vasylyuk.
In late March, prosecutor`s office of Podil district of Kyiv adopted a resolution that terminated the criminal proceedings against Serhiy Bordiychuk, Ivan Kokoshko, Serhiy Chop and Yuriy Zablotskiy, concerning whom on February 11, 2014 Podil district court of Kyiv decided to apply the preventive measure of detention in the form of home arrest.
