From the first day of struggle the European Party of Ukraine has been at EuroMaydan. Our party members have gone through hell, fighting on Hrushevsky St. and Instytutska St. We saw people dying there.
Unfortunately, confrontation led to deaths in the amount of 82 people for now, according to official figures. However, this number may grow. There is still no information about many of the missing people. Ukrainian people have paid a high price for the victory, which must still be protected. And that price was paid by Maydan, which received an absolute and unconditional right to control the formation of a new system of government in Ukraine.
Up to now we have not made any statements, but only informed the public about our participation and assistance of Maydan by clothing, firewood, medicines, food, sometimes just moral support – all the things people may need.
Recently, our country will form a new democratic government. The European Party of Ukraine believes that it will be joined by the representatives of Maydan. However, we have no claims for positions in the Cabinet, as our main task, as a combat political force, is in fighting for the change of power through our representation in the Parliament and in local governments.
But first, we will have to go through an uneasy path and long political struggle for the release of political prisoners, true lustration, tax reform and building an effective model of local government. We will seek to change the Constitution and basic laws of the state to secure the right of every Ukrainian to self-defense and Ukrainian’s right to protection from arbitrary power.
The task of the European Party of Ukraine is a change of a government system, not a change of faces in it. And we will achieve it.
