On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Ukraine’s first shelter for homeless animals in Pirogovo village on the 24th of April, 2016 with the support of the European Party of Ukraine the Open Doors Day was held. Party members have brought 100 kg of food for dogs and cats and handed the shelter over 9,000 UAH for animals’ vaccination.
As it is known, the shelter belongs to the international public organization “Association of Animal Protection «SOS», which is a member of the World Society for the Protection of Animals – WSPA and the British Royal Society, closely cooperates with the Brigitte Bardot Foundation and with organizations for the protection of animals in Austria, UK, Germany, Switzerland and France.
Today 1,000 dogs and 316 cats found refuge in the shelter. From the very beginning of the war in the Eastern Ukraine the shelter has rescued many animals from Donetsk, Slovyansk and Luhansk. Most of them were wounded and maimed.
