Today, People’s Deputy of Ukraine, Leader of the European Party of Ukraine Mykola Katerynchuk submitted to the Parliament a draft law on amendments to the Criminal Code of Ukraine (on strengthening criminal liability for bribery) (No. 8305).
“Corruption is one of the most pressing social issues of our time. In Ukraine, it has become a complex social phenomenon that affects all aspects of political and socio-economic development of society and state. However, the most dangerous manifestation of corruption is bribery, which is actually based on corrupt system. Therefore, an effective fight against bribery, prevention and prevention of bribery, including – by strengthening criminal liability for bribery, are fundamental in the fight against corruption in general “, – said Mykola Katerynchuk, speaking of the motives of legislative initiative.
The draft law aims to increase the maximum penalties p.3 Art.368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which establishes criminal liability for bribery in especially large amounts, or an official who holds a particularly responsible position, from twelve to fifteen years, and also provides the possibility of life imprisonment for such a crime.
“Adoption of this draft law will enable more effective preventive measures in fighting bribery and create an additional mechanism to prevent similar crimes,” – says MP.
