“We are strong, when we are together”, – commented a member of the initiative group that fights for the park of Vasyl Stus in Kyiv, Yuri Zhuravlev on today’s decision of the Shevchenko District Court of Kyiv- “This is a great victory. The court upheld our complaint and we can continue the court fight for the right of the capital to have a park, named after the famous Ukrainian poet.
“Before the next court hearing Yuri Zhuravlev asked the Commandant of Kyiv Mykola Katerynchuk for help. The hearing was attended by the representatives of the Kyiv regional office of the European Party of Ukraine. Together with the representatives of Kyiv citizens they have demonstrated that they care about the future of the park.
“Yet in 2010, under the public pressure the council decided to create a park, named after this famous Ukrainian. But tidbit in about 2.5 acres of land caused an interest of certain people, and the Executive Committee of the Kyiv City Council, instead of implementing the decision, began to slow down. For nearly three years, our group has been fighting in courts and offices of officials, concerning the implementation of this decision”, – told the member of the initiative group.
