Today Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, represented by the Party of Regions and the Communists, committed a crime against Kyiv and its inhabitants. The voting on the resolution on the City Council Elections and Mayor Elections in Kyiv was failed and the domination of the illegitimate government was extended indefinitely. Depriving Kyiv citizens the right to choose their government for solving ordinary economic problems, the members of the Party of Regions transformed the capital of Ukraine into the political arena. All so-called economic feats of Azarov and Popov, as the opening of road junctions and subway stations, are politically motivated. None of them have ever showed any concern about the citizens of Kyiv and no one is going to do it. Their main goal is the president elections in 2015. By this time, any elections, which are not in favor of the government, will be blocked by the Party of Regions and the Communist Party comrades.
The European Party of Ukraine expresses its strong protest on such decisions. We never resign ourselves to such actions, and we will stand for the right of Kyiv citizens to choose their government by all available methods.
We believe that today the parliament still has a chance to correct this mistake and return to the issue of Kiev elections. If it does not happen, it will be a direct evidence of a serious defeat of the Party of Regions. Any compromise on voting the resolution only at the first reading is unacceptable.
