Vitaliy Shcherbenko: Society that demonstrates cruelty to animals will never be humane to people
“The European Party of Ukraine believes that society, which demonstrates cruelty and indifference towards stray animals, will never be humane and compassionate towards each other. In countries with no stray animals , there are no street children”- said the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the European Party of Ukraine Vitaliy Shcherbenko on Tuesday at the press conference in agency «Interfax- Ukraine», devoted to the 20th anniversary of the Company «SOS» and the 16th anniversary of a shelter for stray animals in Pirogovo.
“The European Party of Ukraine introduced a clause of the party`s program on the establishment of the European standards, concerning problems of stray animals as one of the factors in the formation of civil society. We were often treated by volunteers and activists who ask for help in addressing issues of the protection of animals”, – said Vitaliy Shcherbenko.
He also spoke about the systematic care about the problems of the International Society for Animal Protection «SOS», headed by Ms. Tamara Tarnavska. “In the late 90s Mykola Katerynchuk defended Ms. Tarnavska as a lawyer when she was falsely accused and tried to be thrown in jail. The occasion of her accusations was public activity aimed to protect stray animals. She succeeded in closing the “factory of animals recycling” in Pirogovo. Now there is a shelter for homeless animals that is very symbolic. Since that Mykola Katerynchuk has provided all possible assistance to Ms. Tamara and the shelter. And now our Youth Movement joint this campaign”, – said Vitaliy Shcherbenko.
“The European Party of Ukraine with the International Society for Animal Protection «SOS» and other international organizations for animal protection («SOS Chats», Switzerland, the Foundation Brigitte Bordeaux, etc.) will more actively pursue measures to protect animals from cruelty and to provide respect of their rights.
