The court found it illegal to raise gas and heat tariffs in 2016. But Ukrainians are unlikely to be able to take advantage of this decision and recover the money they have overpaid for utilities. This opinion was expressed on the air of the Zik channel by Mykola Katerynchuk, a representative of the Civic Position team.
“There is the first positive decision from the court, people responsible for setting illegal tariffs have appeared. This means that criminal cases against all those who participated in setting tariffs and calculating them for the population should be opened tomorrow.
Will the population be able to take advantage of this decision to their advantage and recover their money? I think no. We will witness isolated cases. Because, unfortunately, our judicial system is still built in such a way that it protects the state, not the citizen”, said Mykola Katerynchuk.
The Civic Position program envisages a profound reform of Ukraine’s judicial system, as it believes that anti-corruption and judicial reforms are the basis of change in a country without which no other initiative will work.
